Mortgage protection

It never ceases to amaze us when we hear of some poor family whose main breadwinner has become seriously ill for one reason or another, whether it be an accident or an ailment caught from an unknown source, and that poor person is unable to earn and pay the mortgage every month.

There is precious little in the way of help from the Government in situations like this these days as the "powers that be" expect everyone to take responsibility for their own actions, and that means take out some mortgage protection to guard against such unforseen problems.

Public opinion, as ever, is split on this issue with roughly half thinking that the Government should pay our mortgage for us should we become ill, whilst the rest agree that we should, as in the USA and other forward looking countries, pay our own way.

Unfortunately this leaves those who have either not considered mortgage protection at all, or have wanted to keep their outgoings down to the bare minimum, out in the cold and possibly in a spot of bother with their lender when they fall behind with payments.

Yes we agree that mortgage protection is an "extra" which may increase your monthly financial burden, but it is a vital extra which you ignore at your peril.

In your younger years when you are full of life and energy you may well think you are indestructible and that nothing will happen to you. Well we sincerely hope it won't, but at the same time you can't discount the unforseen car accident which leaves you in hospital for months, or that wonderful trip down the Nile when you drunk polluted water.

Without mortgage protection in instances like those you could well be in a spot of bother.
